Collection of Information

Learner Drivers

We collect the personal information of Learner Drivers which are provided to us, including your:

  • Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Pickup address
  • Billing address (stored through Stripe, not on The Licence servers)
  • Email address
  • Details of the products you have purchased
  • Any additional information you provide through use of our website
  • Customer number
  • Telephone number

The Licence may pass these details on to Driving Instructors for the purpose of delivering driving lessons.

Driving Instructors

We collect the personal information of Driving Instructors, including your:

  • Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Gender
  • Billing address (stored through Stripe, not on The Licence servers)
  • Email address
  • Telephone number
  • Driver's Licence details
  • Driving Instructor's Licence details
  • WWCC numbers
  • Vehicle Registration Number

The Licence may pass on details to Learner Drivers for the purpose of undertaking driving lessons, including but not limited to a Driving Instructor's name, email address and telephone number.

How we collect information

This information is collected in a number of ways including through:

  • The account creation process
  • Online forms
  • Order placement
  • Interactions with our customer service team
  • Comments, account settings, preferences, ratings
  • All similar types of data as determined from time to time by The Licence

We may also collect data from other sources which may not always be obvious, such as through the use of “cookies”. We may also gather information from both online and offline data providers, which could include internet browsing behaviour, demographic data or interest-based data.

Where you provide us information about a third party, you warrant that you have the consent of that third party before providing us with that information.

Payment information

We do not collect and we are not responsible for the collection or security of payment details. Payment information is processed and stored using third-party companies. Payment gateways and transaction processors (such as Stripe) require certain personal information to complete purchases. These providers operate under their own privacy policies. We recommend you read those policies to understand how your information will be handled. Before entering your personal details we suggest that you read and become familiar with the privacy policy for any third-party company.


Why We Collect This Information

  • Providing access to our products, including by providing this information to Driving Instructors for the purpose of providing driving lessons to Learner Drivers (or vice versa), in particular providing information regarding:

We may disclose feedback from Learner Drivers to Driving Instructors, or vice versa. We may disclose personal information collected for purposes which are incidental to the sale and promotion of our products to you.

We use other companies, contractors or agents to provide services to you including delivery, marketing, communications, legal services, debt collection, administration services, customer services, information technology providers, and payment methods to conduct transactions.

The third parties to whom we disclose personal information may be located within or outside Australia.


Data Storage and Third Party Services

  • Primary storage: Your personal information is stored in systems and databases managed by The Licence (www.thelicence.com.au).
  • Payment storage: Payment information is stored and processed by Stripe and other third-party payment processors. Each provider maintains its own security and privacy practices. We do not control those practices and recommend you review the providers’ privacy policies before completing transactions.
  • Cross-border transfers: Some providers may store or process data on servers located outside Australia. If you proceed with a transaction that uses such a provider, your information may become subject to the laws of the country where that provider or its facilities are located. By using those services you accept the risk of international data transfers.
  • Leaving our site: Once you leave our website or are redirected to a third-party website or application, our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service no longer apply. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites. Please review their privacy statements before providing personal information.
